Mid November Firewood Supply Update

Hopefully you are doing well.

Just to update you on the season’s progress:

Black Friday

Unfortunately, the current order book, and escalating costs mean that our regular Black Friday promotion has ben cancelled, for the time being. We will give you a good offer sometime in the spring, when things start to settle.

In the meantime, I still recommend you buy your timber this month as I believe there is highly likely to be another price rise in the future, due to the wave of escalating costs that we face. From energy, to timber, packaging, fuel, labour, machinery replacement, delivery charges and now interest rate rises, we are being hammered from all directions.

Our delivery dates are reasonable at this moment, with a lag of about 2 weeks, we would expect this to start extending again as we approach the pre-Christmas rush.

Hardwood

The supplies of hardwood are precarious. The imported stock is nearly done and we are only getting dribs and drabs of local material coming in. Our advice remains, that harwood should be left to those with open fires; all stoves will burn larch.

Christmas Shutdown Dates

The Christmas delivery dates are now set, the last day for deliveries is Wednesday 21st December and the first January delivery date is Thursday 5th January. But note these January firewood orders must be with us before Christmas, as they will be dispatched before we close down.

Press Interest

We are aware that there is a lot of press chatter around log burning recently, but feel confident about these 2 facts:

1. Firewood is the ultimate in renewable energy. Trees lock up CO2 and sunlight through there lives. We only release the same amount back when we burn them. Note all forests in the UK must be re-planted within 5 years. When you consider the carbon cost of other renewables (steel smelting and chemical processes) firewood is fine.

2. Firewood producers have seen this negativity coming down the tracks and we have all taken on board the pollution problems, mostly cured with the advent of the Woodsure “Ready to Burn” assurance system.
As discussed before, you can do your part by planning to replace any old stoves with the cleaner-burning new models.

As ever keep warm, and happy burning

Cheers for now
