{"id":9782,"date":"2018-04-13T09:26:22","date_gmt":"2018-04-13T09:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firewood-express-launch.wdl.co\/?p=9782"},"modified":"2018-04-13T09:37:23","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T09:37:23","slug":"important-news-product-changes-to-come-into-line-with-woodsure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.firewood-express.co.uk\/2025\/important-news-product-changes-to-come-into-line-with-woodsure\/","title":{"rendered":"Important News &#8211; Product changes to come into line with Woodsure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is an important notification of a change to our product definitions and specifications.<\/p>\n<p>These have been made as we are working towards achieving\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/woodsure.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Woodsure<\/a><\/strong><\/span> product approval.<\/p>\n<p>Woodsure have defined their &#8220;Ready to Burn&#8221; approval for firewood that has been dried below 20%.<\/p>\n<p>As you know we have defined it slightly higher than that, at 23%, for years.<\/p>\n<p>The reason we chose 23% was through extensive testing we reckoned this was the best value moisture content point for air seasoning. This is because of the &#8220;Law of diminishing returns&#8221; (see the graph) where additional drying takes proportionally longer and therefore adds cost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.firewood-express.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/blogs_posts-Law-of-Diminishing-Returns.jpg\" alt=\"Law of diminishing returns graph\" width=\"500\" height=\"299\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With this in mind, to hit the under 20% level, we are going to make use of a hybrid drying system.<\/p>\n<p>We will dry to around 25% by natural seasoning and then &#8220;finish off&#8221; in the wood chip fired kiln (see the graph for the moisture profile).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.firewood-express.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/blogs_posts-Law-of-Diminishing-Returns-Truncated-by-Kiln-Drying-Graph.jpg\" alt=\"Law of diminishing retuens truncated by kiln drying\" width=\"500\" height=\"295\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This will have 3 major implications, firstly it will give you a slightly more consistent product.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, you will get an increased heat output benefit from the lower moisture content.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we will reduce our range size.
