Evening,<\/p>\n

Well, we have made it through the long, 5 week blues of January, I hope your stoves and fires have kept your homes warm and bright.<\/p>\n

I read a very good article this week from the Stove Industry Alliance (click to read<\/a><\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n

Here are the take home messages:<\/p>\n

1. Wood burning Stoves could contribute 10% to the Governments carbon reduction targets by 2020<\/p>\n

2. Wood burning stoves could contribute 25% to the Renewable Heat Initiative targets by 2020<\/p>\n

3. Stoves only emit 0.008 kg CO2 per kwh versus 1.198 kg\/kw for gas and a surprising 0.517 kg\/kw for electricity (This number will be changing all the time as renewable sources of electricity increase)<\/p>\n

They then make a very reasoned argument for upgrading your stove, as the technologies are progressing with cleaner and more efficient burning properties.,(they would, they are selling stoves :))<\/p>\n

All in all though, I think we can all feel warm and fuzzy that we are doing our bit for the environment.<\/p>\n
