Important News – Product changes to come into line with Woodsure

This is an important notification of a change to our product definitions and specifications.

These have been made as we are working towards achieving Woodsure product approval.

Woodsure have defined their “Ready to Burn” approval for firewood that has been dried below 20%.

As you know we have defined it slightly higher than that, at 23%, for years.

The reason we chose 23% was through extensive testing we reckoned this was the best value moisture content point for air seasoning. This is because of the “Law of diminishing returns” (see the graph) where additional drying takes proportionally longer and therefore adds cost.

With this in mind, to hit the under 20% level, we are going to make use of a hybrid drying system.

We will dry to around 25% by natural seasoning and then “finish off” in the wood chip fired kiln (see the graph for the moisture profile).

This will have 3 major implications, firstly it will give you a slightly more consistent product.

Secondly, you will get an increased heat output benefit from the lower moisture content.

Finally, we will reduce our range size. Seasoned products and our old “Ready to Burn” products will combine with their kiln-dried counterpart to become “Ready to Burn”

The product sections will reduce to “Semi-seasoned” and “Ready To Burn (Kiln dried)”

These changes have been made today.

This means our range is now as follows:

Semi-Seasoned

S/S Scots Pine

S/S Larch

Ready To Burn (Kiln Finished)

RTB Larch

RTB Pine

RTB Hardwood

RTB Birch
